Leif Erickson was an American actor and singer who was best known for his roles in the television series Bonanza and Wagon Train. He was born on October 27, 1911 in Alameda, California. He began his career as a singer and dancer in vaudeville and later appeared in films and on television. Erickson was married twice, first to actress Frances Farmer from 1936 to 1942, and then to actress Susan Hayward from 1945 to 1951. He had two children with Hayward, a son, Timothy, and a daughter, Jennifer. Erickson's career spanned more than five decades, and he appeared in over 100 films and television shows. He was nominated for an Emmy Award for his role in Bonanza in 1960. He also appeared in the films The High and the Mighty, The Ten Commandments, and The Undefeated. Erickson died on January 29, 1986 in Woodland Hills, California at the age of 74. His net worth at the time of his death was estimated to be around $2 million.

He was an actor, known for On the Waterfront (1954), The High Chaparral (1967) and The Carpetbaggers (1964). He was married to Annie Ruth Diamond, Margaret Hayes and Frances Farmer.

Studied at USC in California and first worked as a singer and trombonist with Ted Fio Rito and His orchestra. In films from 1933, often in westerns based on Zane Grey novels. Appeared under the name Glenn Erickson early in his career, but, because of his Nordic appearance, his first name was changed to Leif by 1938. Played a succession of stalwart marshals and sheriffs, as well as Deborah Kerr's insensitive husband in 'Tea and Sympathy' (1956). Best known as cattle rancher Big John Cannon in TV's 'The High Chaparral' (1967-1971).
